Getting Acquainted with UMC

Being new to a church community can be intimidating.  We want you to feel comfortable and relaxed as you get acquainted with us.  Feel free to ask anyone a question if you need information or are feeling confused about a particular event or practice.

The information below is provided to give newcomers a quick reference on some basic information about our community.

Church Calendar - Be sure to check out the online church calendar on this website for an updated schedule of church events.  Upcoming events are also printed in each Sunday's bulletin and sometimes sent out on the

Email List - The church uses an email list to distribute prayer requests, announcements, and other information.  If you would like to be added to the email list (or removed from the list) email your request to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Fellowship Meals - We usually have a fellowship potluck meal on the second Sunday of each month.  Everyone is welcome to stay and enjoy the meal.  Everyone who is able brings food to share.  A notice will be in the bulletin or sent out on the email list, letting people know what to bring.  You are encouraged to bring your own place settings, but if you forget, don't worry--plates, cups, and utensils are also provided.

Bulletin Information - The deadline for sending information for the Sunday bulletin is each Thursday at noon for the following Sunday.  Send your information to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Pastor's Office Hours- Our pastor is Marv Friesen.  You can see his contact information and office hours on our staff page.

Special Needs  - The church elders are available  to assist with special needs or prayer requests.  You can see the elders' contact information on the staff web page.

Small Group Fellowships - Many community members are involved in small group fellowships that extend the experience of community beyond Sunday morning.  Contact one of the elders if you would like more information about joining a small group.

Hymn Books Used in Worship - We use three different hymn books in worship.  The blue hardbound Hymnal Worship Bookis referred to, in the printed order of worship, as HWB.  The green spiral-bound Sing the Journeyis referred to as STJ, and the purple spiral-bound Sing the Story is abbreviated as STS.

Christian Education (Sunday School) Classes - Classes are held for both children and adults from 11 a.m. until noon each Sunday morning.  There are usually one or more adult classes.  Check the bulletin for more information.

Childcare - Childcare is provided each Sunday, during worship, for infants through kindergarten-age children in our nursery, located on the same level as the sanctuary.  Nursery care is available during the Sunday school hour for infants and toddlers.

Getting More Involved - The church has a number of committees that plan for worship and fellowship events, maintain our property, and perform other necessary community functions.  These committees are normally formed each August for the coming September through August church year.  However, if you are interested in becoming more involved in the work of the church at any time, talk to one of our elders or the congregational chair.  Volunteers are always welcome!

Congregational Business Meetings- The church meets quarterly for congregational business meetings to receive updates from the pastor, elders, and committees, as well as to make decisions about church programs.  These meetings are open to all and meeting dates are on the church calendar.

Mailboxes - Mailboxes are provided for all regular church attenders.  If you would like a church mailbox, contact our administrative assistant.

Church Directory - A pictorial church directory is available.  To be included in the directory, or to obtain your own copy of the directory, contact our administrative assistant.
