Being new to a church community can be intimidating. We want you to feel comfortable and relaxed as you get acquainted with us. Feel free to ask anyone a question if you need information or are feeling confused about a particular event or practice.
The information below is provided to give newcomers a quick reference on some basic information about our community.
Be sure to check out the online church calendar on this website for an updated schedule of church events. Upcoming events are also printed in each Sunday’s bulletin and sometimes sent out on the sharing group (see below).
Be sure to enjoy a cup of fairly traded coffee, tea, or hot chocolate and informal fellowship in our basement fellowship hall after worship.
Email Sharing Group
The church uses an email list to distribute prayer requests, announcements, and other information. If you would like to be added to the sharing group email, send a request to Joel Weidner at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We usually have a fellowship potluck meal on the second Sunday of each month. Everyone is welcome to stay and enjoy the meal. Everyone who is able brings food to share. A notice will be in the bulletin or sent out on the email list, letting people know what to bring. You are encouraged to bring your own place settings, but if you forget, don’t worry–plates, cups, and utensils are also provided.
Printed Bulletin Information
The deadline for sending information for the Sunday bulletin is each Thursday at noon for the following Sunday. Send your information to the bulletin coordinator email at email@example.com
Pastor’s Office Hours
Our pastor is Marv Friesen. You can see his contact information and office hours on our staff page.
The church elders are available to assist with special needs or prayer requests. You can see the elders’ contact information on the staff page.
Small Group Fellowship
Many community members are involved in small group fellowships that extend the experience of community beyond Sunday morning. Contact one of the elders if you would like more information about joining a small group.
Hymn Books Used in Worship
We use three different hymn books in worship. The blue hardbound Hymnal Worship Book is referred to, in the printed order of worship, as HWB. The green spiral-bound Sing the Journey is referred to as STJ, and the purple spiral-bound Sing the Story is abbreviated as STS.
Christian Education (Sunday School) Classes
Classes are held for both children and adults from 11 a.m. until noon each Sunday morning. There are usually one or more adult classes. Check the bulletin for more information.
Childcare is provided each Sunday, during worship, for infants through kindergarten-age children in our nursery, located on the same level as the sanctuary. Nursery care is available during the Sunday school hour for infants and toddlers. View our child safety policy here.
Getting More Involved
The church has a number of committees that plan for worship and fellowship events, maintain our property, and perform other necessary community functions. These committees are normally formed each August for the coming September through August church year. However, if you are interested in becoming more involved in the work of the church at any time, talk to one of our elders or the congregational chair. Volunteers are always welcome!
Congregational Business Meetings
The church meets quarterly (February, May, August, November) for congregational business meetings to receive updates from the pastor, elders, and committees, as well as to make decisions about church programs. These meetings are open to all and meeting dates are on the church calendar.
Mailboxes are provided for all regular church attenders and are located in the foyer. If you would like a church mailbox, contact our administrative assistant.
A pictorial church directory is available. All persons in the directory can have access to the online directory. Access the directory by downloading the Instant Church Directory from your app store. The first time you use the app, you will prompted to provide your email address, as listed in the directory. A login code for the app will be emailed to you. You will use this code to access the directory on your device (you can then stay logged on the app).To be included in the directory, or to obtain your own copy of the directory, contact Joel Weidner at firstname.lastname@example.org. Printed copies of the directory can also be made available.
