Being new to a church community can be intimidating. We want you to feel comfortable and relaxed as you get acquainted with us. Feel free to ask anyone a question if you need information or are feeling confused about a particular event or practice.

The information below is provided to give newcomers a quick reference on some basic information about our community. We’re doing things a bit differently during the pandemic so some of the information on this page might not apply until we are able to gather again safely in our building.

Worship

Corporate worship is an important part of our church life. Find out out what worship is like here.

Christian Education (Sunday School) Classes

Classes are held for both children and adults from 11 a.m. until noon each Sunday morning. There are usually one or more adult classes. Check the bulletin for more information.

Childcare

Childcare is provided each Sunday, during worship, for infants through kindergarten-age children in our nursery, located on the same level as the sanctuary. Nursery care is available during the Sunday school hour for infants and toddlers. View our child safety policy here.

Coffee Time

Be sure to enjoy a cup of fairly traded coffee, tea, or hot chocolate and informal fellowship in our basement fellowship hall after worship.

Fellowship Meals

We usually have a fellowship potluck meal on the second Sunday of each month. Everyone is welcome to stay and enjoy the meal.  Everyone who is able brings food to share. A notice will be in the bulletin or sent out on the email list, letting people know what to bring.  You are encouraged to bring your own place settings, but if you forget, don’t worry–plates, cups, and utensils are also provided.

Church Calendar

Be sure to check out the online church calendar on this website for an updated schedule of church events. Upcoming events are also printed in each Sunday’s bulletin and sometimes sent out on the sharing group (see below).

Email Sharing Group

The church uses an email list to distribute prayer requests, announcements, and other information. If you would like to be added to the sharing group email, send a request by completing our contact form.

Church Directory

All who are actively engaged in our church are welcome to become part of our pictorial church directory. Find out how to join the directory here.

Website Access

Some information on our website is restricted to those who are actively engaged and have a user ID and password to log into the site. Restricted content includes recordings from Sunday worship sharing time and reports from our congregational meetings. To obtain access to the non-public part of the website send a request by completing our contact form.

Printed Bulletin Information

The deadline for sending information for the Sunday bulletin is each Friday at 7 am for the following Sunday. Send your information to the bulletin coordinator email at bulletin@universitymennonite.org

Pastor’s Office Hours

Pastor Kate does not keep regular office hours, you can schedule an appointment by calling or emailing.

Special Needs

The church elders are available to assist with special needs or prayer requests. You can see the elders’ contact information on the staff page.

Small Group Fellowship

Many community members are involved in small group fellowships that extend the experience of community beyond Sunday morning. Contact one of the elders if you would like more information about joining a small group.

Getting More Involved

The church has a number of committees that plan for worship and fellowship events, maintain our property, and perform other necessary community functions. These committees are normally formed each August for the coming September through August church year. However, if you are interested in becoming more involved in the work of the church at any time, talk to one of our elders or the congregational chair.  Volunteers are always welcome!

Congregational Business Meetings

The church meets quarterly (February, May, August, November) for congregational meetings to receive updates from the pastor, elders, and committees, as well as to make decisions about church programs. These meetings are open to all and meeting dates are on the church calendar.

Mailboxes

Mailboxes are provided for all regular church attenders and are located in the foyer. If you would like a church mailbox, contact our administrative assistant.
